POS codes

Product retail uses point-of-sale codes. This is the barcode scanned at the cash register. There are several types. Retailers determine the type they wish to use. They can also choose their own codes from some more commonly provided codes. When a POS code is provided with a product, it is important to know the code that the retailer wants.

A uniform code with which floricultural products can be scanned at garden centers, DIY shops and supermarkets is offered by Living Greenery Coding (CLG). Information is available at www.levendgroen.nl.

The VBN also provides a general POS code for plants. This code is related to the product code in combination with the most important characteristic determining purchase, established for the product. The POS codes can be downloaded from this page.
